Leonel Vasquez

Colombian artist Leonel Vasquez holds a Masters of visual and plastic arts from the National University of Colombia, where he developed a proposal for sound dimension, through sculptures, installations, videos and facts, also exploring the states of tension between spaces, architectures, bodies and voices as main components of reflection of his work. His research interests for creation is marked by the irruption of absences, which have shaped to plastic temporary constructions, allowing the approach to the fragility of life and its proximity to the duel in a poetic way. His work has been presented in many events associated with mix media and sound art as “Colon Electrónico Ciclo Eventos Visuales Sonoros Contemporáneos” (2003), the Colombian sound art exhibitions “Sonare” (Mambo 2010) and densities (U. Andes 2011), at fairs ARTBO Art (2006), La Otra (2007), Tectonic (2009) and in public and private galleries like Santa Fe Gallery (2006), El Nogal Gallery (2010), L.A Gallery (2010), Diapason Gallery (2010). Leonel is a recipient of many awards and recognitions for his artistic work such as in the V Bienal Asab Material y Pensamiento Sonoro en el II y IV Salón de Egresados ASAB (Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas), additionally a recognition for academic achievement: honorable mentions in his thesis “Muertes Vivas”( National University of Colombia), and received his honors degree for his Thesis “sonorous Architecture” (University District Francisco Jose de Caldas). For the last three years Leonel has been working as a professor and researcher at the National University of Colombia in the Sound Art Department. He also directs the project Coello and Combeima, a space for reflection and experimentation around Colombia on sonic creation and under the program of Laboratories of Research Creation from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.
