Eruoma Awashish

Eruoma Awashish has a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary art and won the artist award at Quebec Aboriginal Tourism 2015. She seeks to promote awareness of her culture. Her dual identity—her father is Atikamekw and her mother Québécoise—allows her to better grasp the differences between the two communities and create a space for dialogue through her work. Awashish feels a deep connection to her Aboriginal culture. Her work is focused on métissage, metamorphosis, pain and grief and is steeped in spirituality, symbolism and syncretism. She reappropriates symbols from Catholicism and gives them new meaning.
