Cynthia Girard

Cynthia Girard is a visual artist and a poet. Her recent solo exhibitions include Locked Up at Space Studios (London, U.K.), Le temps des oiseaux at Optica (Montréal), Histoire de bois at L’Écart (Rouyn-Noranda) and Fictions sylvestres (Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal). She drew critical attention with a series of exhibitions entitled Le pavillon du Québec, 2001-3, which questioned how Québécois national identity was represented. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, among others John Moores 24 at the Liverpool Biennial in 2006 and Histoires des Amériques at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in 2004. In 2005-6, she was artist in residence at the Canada Council for the Arts studio for visual artists in London, U.K. She has published several collections of poems, including Le soleil et l’électron at Triptyque in 2005.
