Christina Kubisch

Christina Kubisch was born in 1948 in Bremen, and belongs to the early generation of the sound art movement. Her artistic education was interdisciplinary, including painting, music and composition, before specializing with teachers in Hamburg, Graz, Zurich and Milan, where she studied electronics to further develop her experimentation with sound. Since the beginning of the 1970s, she has been performing her own compositions in concerts. After an intensive period of art performances, she turned to installations and sound sculptures in the 1980s, and to spaces lit outside and inside, and to electro-acoustic composition. The work of Christina Kubisch can be described as a “synthesis of the arts”: on the one hand the discovery of sound space and the dimension of time in the visual arts and, on the other hand, the redefinition of the relationship between the material and form of music. Since 2003 she has been recording live performances with musicians and dancers as well as teaching at the College of Fine Arts of Saarbrücken. In addition to presenting her works in exhibitions and music and art festivals on all continents, the media artist is also guest professor in Maastricht, Paris, Berlin and artist in residence in Stockholm. Christina Kubisch is a member of the Academy of Arts of Berlin since 1997.
