Annie Rollins

Annie Rollins is multi-racial artist from the United States who works primarily as researcher and practitioner of traditional Chinese Shadow Puppetry. She has been a shadow puppet apprentice in Mainland China since 2008 and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 2011 to continue the work. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Concordia University in Montreal on the transmission of traditional Chinese shadow puppet making methods. Recent venues for workshops, lectures and performances include the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, the Virginia Fine Arts Museum, the Linden Center in Yunnan China, Droom Theatre and the Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands. Annie frequently publishes in Puppetry International and has a forthcoming article in Asian Theatre Journal. Rollins recently launched the first English language comprehensive Chinese shadow puppetry site at www.chineseshadowpuppetry.com.
