Spread out over three sessions, this workshop will deal with configuring a network of wireless sensors, as well as the visualization and sonification of the data generated by this network.
The three sessions will be held over two days. During the first session, participants will be given an introduction to wireless sensor networks, including light, temperature and movement sensors, as well as an overview of how set up a network. Recent art projects using this technology will be examined, and participants will be invited to build a network adapted to the workshop.
The goal of this exercise is to expose artists to the basic concepts and techniques necessary for the realization of a successful project. The second session will focus on fine-tuning the network. After all the necessary components are installed, the artists will be introduced to methods of testing and making the network function properly, followed by a presentation on ways of compiling and utilizing the data generated for use in the creation of an artwork. In the third session, participants will develop their knowledge of data processing and refining techniques for transforming the generated data into visual and sonic formats.

*This workshop will be conducted in English by a bilingual instructor.
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with mulitmedia programming softwares (MaxMSP; Processing; Pure Data…) is not essential but would be helpful for the participant;
- Be a professional artist, creator or cultural worker;
- Be a self-employed worker or a salaried employee in an enterprise not subject to 1 % Training Investment*;
- Attend every workshop session.
*Any enterprise whose total payroll is $1.000.000 or more is subject to 1% Training Investment. (Emploi-Québec Program)

Reservations can be done by phone or email. Full payment must be made for inscription to be valid. You can pay by credit card (Visa or MasterCard), cheque or in cash. Inscription to a workshop is not transferable.
Cancellation / Refunding
OBORO does not refund inscription fees except in case of illness (with a medical note) or of absolute necessity. In such cases, inscription fees are transferable to another workshop or service offered by the New Media Lab.
