The Long Night Takes considers night as space. A space that is produced and one that is influenced by a psychic charge driven by centuries of human experience. Night as host of revolutionary impulse, libidinal desire, criminal action, escapist fantasy, freedom ventures, hushed meetings and whispers.

The Long Night Takes considers night as time. A time of ferment and recuperation. A time of release and contemplation. The night is a time that slows down, even when it speeds past.

Steve Bates

Steve Bates is an artist and musician living in Montréal. The sonic is the starting point for his projects, which are evocations of communication networks and systems, or expressions of spatial and temporal experience. He frequently uses sound material that is site-specific in an attempt to uncover place and how the sonic affects our experience of site. Time can be measured, stretched, pulled at, ignored, and extended.
