Structured as a collaborative learning and creative lab, the Kinetics and Poetics: Making Sound and Movement workshop will make use of low tech to explore the artistic and poetic behaviour of moving objects.
By repurposing obsolete technology and using pre-made motors and circuits, participating artists will experiment with the audio and visual aspects of mechanical movement. They will use amplification to reveal the hidden sonorities of raw materials and the natural resonances of mechanical objects. Participants will also explore noise, rhythm, looping, and texture for sound composition and movement, for the visual trace and narrative possibilities.
Unfolding over 5 consecutive days, this research-creation workshop aims to stimulate participants to collaborate and produce a site-specific installation and/or performance in a space outside the gallery. Based on the participants’ discoveries, these ephemeral creations will be conserved through audiovisual documentation.
The workshop is designed for artists working in any art field (visual arts, performance, dance, sound art, etc.)
Please note that the content of the workshop may be revised to suit the needs of the participants. This workshop is offered primarily in French, by bilingual instructors.

Prerequisites
- Be a professional artist;
- Be a self-employed worker or a salaried employee in an enterprise not subject to 1 % Training Investment*;
- Attend every workshop session.
*Any enterprise whose total payroll is $1.000.000 or more is subject to 1% Training Investment. (Emploi-Québec Program)
Please note that two spots are reserved for employees of companies that are subject to the 1% Law in skills development.

Reservation / Payment
Reservations can be done by phone or email. Full payment must be made for reservations to be valid. You can pay by credit card (Visa or MasterCard), cheque or in cash. Registration to a workshop is not transferable.
Cancellation / Refund
OBORO does not refund registration fees except in case of illness (with a medical note) or of absolute necessity. In such cases, registration fees are transferable to another workshop or service offered by the New Media Lab.
