OBORO celebrates its 35 years on November 16th.

Join us for a festive evening of performances to mark the inauguration of our anniversary exhibition.

What, where and who will we be in the year 2054? Part opening, part happening and part birthday party, this evening returns to OBORO’s Fluxus roots with the help of three skilled practitioners in the dark art of performance. Come and fasten your seatbelts alongside all of our other special guests for an extraordinary ride hosted by Alexis O’Hara, with new performances by Dayna McLeod and Chittakone Thirakul.

Dayna McLeod

Dayna McLeod is a writer, video and performance artist whose work is ripe with humour and socially charged situations. She has traveled extensively with her performance work, and her videos have played from London Ontario to London England, across Europe, North America, South America, and a few times on TV. She has received funding for video projects from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

Alexis O’Hara

The work of Alexis O’Hara embraces the transcendent danger of improvisation, using humor to lubricate the assault of her anti-racist-feminist-killjoy ways. She has released four albums, a book of poetry and enough helium-filled balloons to get her dress caught up in a chandelier. Her performances and installations have been presented in diverse contexts across the Americas and Europe. In 2016, she was awarded the Powerhouse Prize. Alexis and her alter ego, Guizo La Nuit are mainstays of the Montreal cabaret scene.

Chittakone Thirakul

Chittakone Thirakul (Hazy Montagne Mystique) is a sound artist of Laotian/Tai Dam heritage whose culture is very important to his research. He is active in the experimental music scene, constantly seeking out new sounds and active communication with his collaborators as a self-taught musician. In 2010, he co-founded the label Jeunesse Cosmique, which supports all kinds of experimental music; pastoral freak, organic field recordings, noise, jazz, electro and ethnological music. 

Aaron Pollard

Aaron Pollard is a multidisciplinary artist from Montreal who has been producing and presenting video art and multimedia performances since the early 1990s. His works have been shown in Canada and abroad. He studied at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design and Concordia University, where he completed an MFA. He is the co-founder of 2boys.tv as well as researcher and head of OBORO's multimedia sector.
